Canada shares lower at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite down 0.20%

Canada equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the ITIndustrials and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.20%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Onex Corp (TSX:ONEX), which rose 2.89% or 3.19 points to trade at 113.54 at the close. CAE Inc. (TSX:CAE) added 2.21% or 0.79 points to end at 36.52 and Parex Resources Inc (TSX:PXT) was up 2.04% or 0.27 points to 13.50 in late trade.

Biggest losers included ATS Corporation (TSX:ATS), which lost 3.31% or 1.48 points to trade at 43.27 in late trade. Granite REIT (TSX:GRT_u) declined 2.22% or 1.58 points to end at 69.71 and TFI International Inc (TSX:TFII) shed 2.19% or 4.45 points to 198.66.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 444 to 429 and 114 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

 

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 1.67% to 10.97.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.80% or 21.34 to $2,632.56 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.93% or 0.65 to hit $70.27 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.81% or 0.59 to trade at $73.44 a barrel.

CAD/USD was unchanged 0.09% to 0.69, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.08% to 0.67.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.07% at 107.82.
